TL;DR
Binky Block is an app that helps you block distracting apps. The whole point is to protect your attention, and that includes protecting your data. We collect as little as we can and we never sell it. Read on for the specifics, in plain English.
The big thing: Apple's Screen Time framework gives us opaque tokens for your blocked apps. We literally cannot see which apps you block. We never receive their names, their icons, or your usage of them.
What we collect
We try to keep this short. Here's the full list:
- Account email, when you sign up, so we can sync your settings across devices and contact you if your account needs attention.
- Anonymous usage analytics, counts of taps, sessions, and errors. No personally identifying info, no tracking IDs sold to anyone.
- App selection tokens, opaque references to the apps you've chosen to block. These tokens are sealed by Apple. We use them to enforce blocks but cannot decode them.
- Subscription state, whether you're on a free trial, a paid plan, or lifetime, so we can give you the right features. The transaction itself happens between you and Apple.
- Chat negotiation history, your conversations with Binky live on your device by default. If you opt in to cross-device sync, an encrypted copy is stored on our backend.
What we don't collect
For clarity, here is data we explicitly do not collect:
- Which specific apps you block. Apple's FamilyControls API hides this from us by design.
- Your overall screen-time data outside the apps you've selected for Binky to manage.
- Your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera.
- Browsing history, web activity, or any data from apps outside Binky Block.
- Anything we'd sell to advertisers. We don't run ads. Ever.
How we use the data we do collect
- To run the app: enforce your schedules, deliver Binky chats, sync your settings.
- To improve the app: figure out which features people use, which crash, and what to build next.
- To contact you: notify you about your subscription, security, or product changes. Never marketing spam.
- To respond when you reach out for support.
Our backend runs on Supabase, which stores your data encrypted at rest and in transit. Supabase is a processor, they don't use your data for anything but hosting it for us.
Third-party services
Binky Block touches the following third parties, only where strictly needed:
- Apple StoreKit, handles every subscription, every trial, every refund. We never see your card.
- Apple Push Notifications, to send Binky's coaching nudges when you've allowed them.
- Sign in with Apple, if you choose this sign-in method, Apple shares only a relay email.
- Google Sign-In, if you choose this sign-in method, Google shares your email and name.
- Supabase, the encrypted database that stores your account.
Your rights
You can:
- Export your data, in-app, Settings > Privacy > Export My Data.
- Delete your account, in-app, Settings > Account > Delete Account. We wipe your record within 30 days, retaining only what we're legally required to keep (e.g. tax records for paid transactions).
- Correct your data, change your email and preferences from Settings > Account.
- Object to processing, email us at support@bellemont.co.
If you're in the EU, UK, California, or another jurisdiction with stronger rules (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), those rights apply to you as well, and you can reach us at the same address to exercise them.
Children's policy
Binky Block is rated 4+ but is designed for teens and adults building healthier phone habits. We do not run targeted ads, we do not sell data to anyone, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email support@bellemont.co and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll update the effective date above and, where required, notify you in-app or by email. Continued use after a material change means you accept the new terms.
